Spring Has Sprung!

The weather is warmer, the lupine is blooming, the show seasons is near.  This means many things at Clifford Horse Training:

1. Time to put those winter blankets away.  Even with an early feeding, Carlos is finding that some horses are sweating a little under their heavy blankets.  I recommend that everyone go to fly sheets, which the horses can wear 24/7.  It will protect those shiny show coats from fading in the UV rays.  You could also do lighter sheets at night, but it is too warm for most light sheets during the day.  I have discovered some sweating under those as well.  Doing one sheet during the day and another at night is a little too much to ask of Carlos.

2.I have cattle at the Trail and Saddle Club!  If you are already in a training program, you can work them in your lessons for free. If you want to work them in a regular lesson, add 15.oo to the price of the lesson.   And last but not least, you can always attend Members’ Cattle Nights, beginning in May.  I’m not sure which night this will be, but it’s looking like Tuesdays.  If you would like to be part of choosing a night, go to http://www.cvtsc.org and cast your vote.

3.I also have my mechanical flag up and working at the ranch.  This is an excellent way to prepare your horse for working cattle, and an excellent way to fix any problems that may crop up in your live cattle work.

4.Wondering which show to enter and at what level? It’s time to talk!  I have suggestions for everyone, but I am also ready to hear about your concerns and schedules.  It’s time to get your entries in for the Central Coast Ranch Horse Classic Open, Amateur, and Limited (on Sunday).  Also, give special thought to a similar event on the following weekend in Woodside. I will be attending both.  Look back for Debby Sanguinetti’s schedule earlier in this blog.  That has links to both events where you can download details and entry blanks.
