California State Fair Versatility

After a wonderful afternoon, evening, and restful night at Grace’s house, Rachel and I continued on to the State Fair Versatility in Sacramento. Chase was wonderful in the morning, placing third in cutting and winning the working ranch class. I was leading the event as we broke for lunch. Then, I had a disastrous trail class, “clunking” all the lope-over poles. That, and a low placing in conformation, was enough to knock me down to the middle of the pack. No AQHA points for me! I think I learned a valuable lesson. It’s so important to work on EVERY aspect of versatility, including the things that may seem “easy.” I couldn’t have been more proud of Rachel of Jack. They placed second in the limited, the only youth to participate in the show. Rachel had an amazing cow work and even did well in trail and ranch riding, events that were always difficult for me when I was showing Jack! I think this transition agrees with everybody!
